James Watt, R.G.I The paintings of James Watt are evidence of his life long passion for the sea and all things maritime, particularly small working craft such as puffers, tugs and fishing boats. Working mainly out of doors, his rugged, spontaneous use of paint and powerful composition combine to capture the very essence of these hardy craft. In his landscapes, usually of winter, he manages to evoke the Scottishness of his subject by use of a very limited palette together with a carefully designed and dramatic sky
