Frances Macdonald

Frances Macdonald’s small ‘domestic’ type paintings have been enjoyed for many years by large numbers of visitors to the tiny canal side village of Crinan, Argyll. When a few years ago she felt she was ready to move into more ambitious subjects the change was dramatic. All her previous 30 years’ experience of living at the very edge of the sea was brought into play – all her knowledge of the surrounding sea lochs, the history and grandeur of the area combined with her own sailing activities was reflected in the atmosphere of the new paintings and added to their importance.
